Vice President for Academic Affairs
Hebrew College, one of the nation’s leading institutions of Jewish higher education, currently has a position available for a vice president for academic affairs.
Located in Newton Centre, Mass., Hebrew College promotes excellence in Jewish learning and leadership within a pluralistic environment of open inquiry, intellectual rigor, personal engagement and spiritual creativity. The college offers graduate degrees, certificates and rabbinical and cantorial ordination through its Rabbinical School, School of Jewish Music, Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education and Jewish studies and Hebrew language programs; community education for adult learners; and a supplemental Jewish high school and middle school. Many Hebrew College programs are offered entirely online or in combination with on-campus study.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Jewish studies, preferably with expertise in modern Jewish history
- Experience as administrative leader of academic program(s), dean or department chair
- Experience with online teaching and learning
- Commitment to the intersection of academic Jewish studies, Jewish leadership training and community education
Responsibilities:
- Serve as chief academic officer for the college
- Develop programs and strategies to reach new student markets
- Participate in fundraising for graduate programs
- Coordinate master's programs in Jewish studies
- Manage online Jewish studies courses
- Oversee and strengthen Hebrew-language programs
- Review, develop and implement academic policies for all graduate programs
- Direct deans of other graduate programs
- Manage registrar and academic administrator
- Supervise library services
- Collaborate with community-education programs and provide guidance on academic issues
- Represent the college with the regional accrediting agency (NEASC)
- Advise and participate in academic searches and appointments
- Teach at least two courses per year
- Oversee academic budgets
- Work closely with other senior leaders of the college, including vice president for institutional advancement, director of marketing and communications and director of enrollment management
- Foster a culture of collaboration between programs within the college
- Interact with other members of the Boston Theological Institute, a consortium of 10 theological schools and seminaries

Director of Enrollment Management

The successful candidate will serve as the college’s senior admissions officer and oversee day-to-day operations in admissions, including all recruitment activities; research and planning; print and electronic communications; hiring and training of staff; budget management; financial aid; special marketing plans; and other recruitment initiatives. S/he will increase the visibility of Hebrew College and its programs, taking the initiative to provide significant input to the college marketing plan, working with staff to effect strategic media placement and implementing plans for marketing through print and electronic media. The director of enrollment management will represent Hebrew College at key events and meetings on and off campus, coordinating other staff as needed, and will stay abreast of trends in the Jewish community and in higher education and the recruitment marketplace. He or she will be an active member of the college’s management leadership team.
Responsibilities:
- Providing strategic leadership in advancing the college’s recruitment, retention and enrollment goals
- Assuring effective use of technology and analysis of data in achieving enrollment objectives
- Maintaining the college’s commitment to superior customer service
- Setting and driving annual enrollment, as well as net tuition revenue goals, for each program
- Balancing and managing brand awareness for the college as a whole in the context of strong individual programs
- Integrating the admissions process with financial aid and registration
- Collaborating with senior management on a wide range of recruitment and marketing projects
- Ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations a they relate to admissions
- Leading marketing initiatives, including marketing analysis for current and potential future programs

Assistant/Associate Professor of Jewish Education and Director of the Jewish Education Leadership Track of the Ed.D., Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education, Hebrew College, and Northeastern University
Hebrew College is seeking a full-time assistant/associate professor of Jewish education to join the faculty of the Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education. We are seeking an excellent scholar/educator who will teach professionals working towards M.J.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees and will lead a collaborative partnership with Northeastern University as director of the Jewish Educational Leadership Track of the Ed.D. This is a concentration within the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University; the JELT director is a joint appointment betweenHebrew College and Northeastern University.
The ideal candidate will have evidence of outstanding teaching, a record of academic publications, a doctorate in Jewish education or related field, proficiency in Hebrew, knowledge of Jewish studies and commitment to online teaching. She or he will have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong interest in collegial relationships.
The Shoolman Graduate School, with a full set of academic degrees and professional certificates in Jewish education at M.J.Ed. and Ed.D. levels, develops leaders and educators for the 21st century through on-campus and distance learning for diverse venues and global settings. The school is committed to the teaching of inclusion in Jewish education through its Center for Inclusive Education. A new paradigm of educating for spiritual growth is a feature of the teaching and learning in the Shoolman School.
The school, in association with Combined Jewish Philanthropies, provides professional-development services for the Boston Jewish community and further afield in the areas of early childhood, special education, community education and informal education. Recruitment Coordinator, Prozdor of Hebrew College
Prozdor of Hebrew College, a cutting-edge, innovative supplementary Jewish high school in Newton Centre, Mass., seeks a dynamic and charismatic full-time recruitment coordinator. The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for coordinating all recruitment of new students in addition to assisting with marketing, messaging and performing outreach to partner congregations, schools and organizations.
Essential responsibilities/functions:
- Develop lists of all Jewish teens currently enrolled in both day schools and supplementary schools to be used for recruitment purposes
- Identify teens engaged with other Jewish programming, i.e., camping and JCCs, who are currently not in formal learning programs
- Conduct recruitment visits and outreach
- Schedule recruitment presentations at area supplementary schools and day schools and make recruitment presentations
- Develop social media campaigns (Twitter and Facebook) to spread the word about Prozdor
- Build relationships with rabbis, school principals, lay leaders and school administrators to help build a cadre of Prozdor advocates
- Schedule recruitment meetings with parents to assist with recruitment
- Blog regularly about Prozdor events and news
- Attend community events to help promote Prozdor
Administrative team responsibilities:
- Assist and staff Prozdor trips and Shabbatonim, as necessary
- Attend weekly Prozdor staff meetings and individual meetings with director
- Teach Wednesday nights at the Lexington branch at Temple Emunah
- Assist with management of new website and communication tools

Buildings and Grounds Supervisor (Part-Time)
This part-time (approx. 15- 20 hours per week) position is responsible for managing, supporting and supervising the maintenance, custodial and grounds components of Hebrew College. The buildings and grounds manager is required to provide, ensure and maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for students, visitors, faculty and staff. The position reports to the vice president for finance and administration.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Supervise custodial staff
- Develop, coordinate and maintain an effective planned preventative maintenance program for the entire campus
- Train and develop workforce
- Schedule the workload to efficiently and economically meet work responsibilities
- Manage requisition and inventory control and maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Manage facilities’ efforts for disaster and storm coordination
- Be on call for alarm issues
- Review and prioritize work orders
- Prepare yearly budget for fund requirements and continually monitor expenditures to assure that funds allocated are effectively utilized and expenditures are limited to the allocations
- Maintain and manage all vendor contracts related to buildings and grounds
- Consult with architects, engineers, contractors and college departments in the planning and of existing facilities. Monitor projects to ensure that facilities are constructed in accordance with specifications.
- Act as a liaison with federal, state and local agencies, companies, contractors, neighbors and members of the Hebrew College community on all technical matters involving the college’s buildings and grounds
- Interpret and ensure compliance with all city, state and federal regulations concerning environmental protection, plumbing, fire and electrical underwriter codes, safety, boiler and pressure vessel codes and other codes and regulations that may apply
- Receive and carry out special assignments as may be directed by the vice president for administration and finance
Human and environmental issues:
Environmental health and safety, workplace dynamics, teamwork, interpersonal behaviors, ergonomics and comfort
Leadership and management:
Code compliance, committee participation, purchasing, building services, vendor contract compliance, furnishings, equipment inventories, outsourcing management
Operations management:
Physical plant, preventative maintenance, maintenance repairs, grounds, security, custodial services (including set-up, breakdown and equipment requests), conservation (energy and supplies), energy-management system
Qualifications:
- Evidence of an understanding of the purposes of higher education and the ability to work with administrators and faculty in a peer relationship
- Ability to organize and delegate work so as to control a variety of programs simultaneously and the adaptability to cope with change.
- Knowledge of management techniques, including record-keeping, reporting, budgeting, inventory control and cost, personnel and performance analyses
- Ten years' supervisory role in facilities in a school or nonprofit setting
