Social justice is the focus of a new Prozdor summer program for Jewish teens at Hebrew College. Keren Or—Ray of Light—combines mornings of Jewish study and afternoons of community volunteer work, with a goal of engaging teens in acts of tikkun olam.

Marjorie Tarmy Berkowitz"The entire Prozdor experience is geared to living, learning and doing—how to take Jewish values and apply them to the real world," says Prozdor Director Marjorie Tarmy Berkowitz.

The six-week program, July 1–August 6, runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday–Thursday, except for the final week, when classes will be held Monday–Wednesday due to Tisha b'Av. Participants may attend for a full- or half-day. Cost of the full program is $600.

Working with Prozdor faculty, students will design their own social justice curriculum, learning together in a directed seminar format. Volunteer activities may include helping at a homeless shelter or tutoring inner-city children. Prozdor instructor Michael Morgan will be Program Director.

Keren Or is offered in collaboration with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, supported by a grant from CJP's Commission on Jewish Continuity. For more information, call 617-559-8800.
