Hebrew Language Central to the College's curriculum is the mastery of Hebrew—the language of classical and modern texts. Many courses require a substantive knowledge of Hebrew, while a number of courses are taught solely in Hebrew. Students should check with program advisers to determine which Hebrew language sequence is appropriate for their course of study. Through a four-semester, undergraduate, online Hebrew language sequence, students gain the ability to read and speak Hebrew. Graduate-level courses enable students to develop advanced reading skills for the study of classical Jewish texts, ancient and medieval, as well as Hebrew literature. Students who wish to gain proficiency in reading classical Hebrew texts—such as the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible), the siddur (prayer book) or classic rabbinic (Mishna), Hasidic and modern Hebrew texts—may enroll in the campus-based, four-semester sequence, Understanding Hebrew Texts. Students develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, with a strong foundation in Hebrew grammar, as they explore diverse genres and historical periods of Hebrew literature. The NETA Hebrew Language Initiative trains Hebrew language teachers for Jewish day middle and high schools. In addition to classical language instruction, the college offers New England's most comprehensive modern Hebrew program through its nine-level Ulpan. Hebrew Language Classes, Programs and Resources
