If you ever stroll by the student lounge on a Tuesday afternoon between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., and think you're hearing voicesyou're right. Since its first meeting in early November, Hebrew College's new a capella group, Hiccup! (for Hebrew College A caPella), has been harmonizing on everything from old standard Hebrew rounds to modern Israeli popular songs.
Founded and led by Student Life Coordinator and musician Daniel Rothblum, Hiccup!, now more than ten voices strong, made its debut performance during the campus Hanukkah party on December 15. One of a growing number of Jewish collegiate a capella groups, the Hebrew College group is noncompetitive and open to all students.
"After having my adult bat mitzvah this past summer and chanting in front of many people, I felt inspired to challenge and develop my voice in a new way," says MAJS student Kimberly Herzog. "I feel comfortable in the group, and people have been most understanding and helpful when I sing off-key!"
Rothblum simultaneously launched a Rosh Chodesh group for all women in the Hebrew College community. The group meets close to the first day of each month of the Hebrew calendar. For more information on either organization, contact Daniel Rothblum at 617-559-8624 or
