When it comes to awards and honors,
Art Green's cup runneth over.
On June 5, in recognition of his contributions to the study of Kabbalah and Hasidism, his translations and annotations of classical Jewish sources and his theological writings, Green received a Jewish Cultural Achievement Award in Scholarship from the National Foundation for Jewish Culturea first for Hebrew College faculty.
A few weeks later, on July 1, Green was elevated from Dean to Rector of Hebrew College's
Rabbinical School. In addition, he became the first occupant of the Irving Brudnick Chair in Philosophy and Religion, which was established in perpetuity at the College with a generous gift from trustee Betty Brudnick
P'46. As Brudnick Professor, Green will continue to teach and study the relationships between religion, science and philosophy.
"In the two years since his arrival at Hebrew College to build our Rabbinical School, Art Green has distinguished himself as a visionary leader and contributed his outstanding scholarship to the work of our faculty and students," says Hebrew College President David M. Gordis. "We join in honoring Art for his extraordinary career, and are honored to name him as the first Brudnick Professor."
