For thousands of years, the three Abrahamic traditions-Judaism, Christianity and Islam-have often been faiths in conflict, despite their shared rich history and background.
"Border Crossing: Inside Christianity, Islam and Judaism," a series of evening classes sponsored by The Interreligious Center on Public Life, Andover Newton Theological School (ANTS) and Hebrew College, will illuminate how Christians, Jews and Muslims have related, clashed and evolved over time.
How is the Qu'ran structured? Why do Muslims place such importance on the prophet Muhammed in their daily lives? How did Christian and Jewish interpretations of the Bible influence one another-even during periods of hostility? What is the true role of women in Islam today?
These are just a few of the questions scholars and professionals in the fields of religion and political science will address during this series. Instructors include Dr. Tariq Jaffer of Boston University, Rabbi Or Rose of Hebrew College, Dr. Gregory Mobley of ANTS, Reuven Cohn of Hebrew College, Dr. Rodney Petersen of the Boston theological Institute, and Dr. Deina Ali Abdelkader of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
Classes cost $80 each and take place at either Hebrew College or ANTS from 7:30-9:00 p.m., May 1-June 8. To register, visit hebrewcollege.edu/bordercrossing.
