Good news for incoming students: Another
fellowship has been established at Hebrew College for the 2006–07 academic year. The Thelma Frisch Hoch Fellowship in Jewish Education will benefit an HC student enrolled in a degree program in Jewish education.
Harold Hoch of Greenacres, Fla., generously donated $100,000 to establish this fellowship in loving memory of his wife, Thelma Frisch Hoch
P'41,
BJEd'45. As a teenager and student at Boston University, Thelma commuted from Lynn, Mass., to HC to attend her Prozdor and college classes. She developed a deep passion for Jewish education and taught Hebrew to young children, determined to give her students "a good base" for their Jewish education.
A teacher at the Hebrew School of the Menorah Institute in Boston, the Maimonides School in Brookline, the Winthrop Hebrew School, Temple Beth El Hebrew School in Swampscott, and Temple Sinai in Marblehead, Thelma taught for over 40 years. Thelma and Harold's three sons, David, Steven and Rand, all attended the Lynn Hebrew School. Steven
P'69 and Rand
P'73 both elected to attend Prozdor High School.
"I thought Thelma deserved recognition for all her efforts toward Jewish education," says Harold. "Hebrew College is a good place to preserve her passion for teaching. I hope this money helps someone who is interested, as she was, in pursuing a career in Jewish education."
