Add eight new Me'ah sites in the New York metropolitan area to the growing list of Me'ah satellites outside of Greater Boston. Building on the collaborative model piloted by Hebrew College and Combined Jewish PhilanthropiesHebrew College provides the faculty, curriculum, materials and administrative support for the two-year adult learning program, and local federations or other Jewish institutions provide financial support and
connections to area congregations and community centersMe'ah has teamed with a New York federation-sponsored learning initiative and several synagogues in Manhattan and New Jersey for fall classes.
At least 200 students are expected to attend classes at Congregation Or Zarua and the Society for the Advancement of Judaism in Manhattan; Temple Israel of Great Neck and Temple Beth El of Great Neck; the Suffolk Association for Jewish Educational Services, an educational collaborative in Commack, N.Y., funded by UJA-Federation of New York; the Jewish Center of Princeton, N.J.; and Temple Sinai in Summit, N.J.
Other Me'ah satellites outside of Boston this fall include congregations in New Bedford and Hyannis, Mass., Baltimore Hebrew University and Providence, R.I. Between the 13 national sites and 20 Greater Boston sites, Me'ah will enroll about 800 students for the 20042005 academic year.
