With the opening of the Rabbinical School, geometric growth of Prozdor, steady increase in graduate enrollments and popularity of adult learning programs, Hebrew College's Newton Centre campus is out of room. Not quite two years after the College moved to its new location, plans are underway to begin the next phase of campus development. To deal with immediate space needs, the College has negotiated a lease with neighbor Andover Newton Theological School to rent offices and classrooms in an underutilized building, and Prozdor has arranged to lease space for some of its Sunday classes at nearby Mt. Ida College.
In addition, following initial meetings with architect Moshe Safdie, Columbia Construction Co. and project consultants, the Board of Trustees has authorized the College to move forward with preparations for Phase II. Plans include at least one and possibly two more academic buildings, completion of the Conference Center attached to the Cutler-Chafetz Building, an auditorium, expanded parking and provisions for student housing.
