Class Discussions

Two forms of class discussion will take place throughout the Hebrew Language course:

  1. Web-based, asynchronous, threaded audio discussion in Hebrew, using Wimba Voice Tools voice message boards. (When you click the link for each of these assignments in the Blackboard Web site, you will be prompted to log in, and you need to use your email address and password as the login.)

  2. Weekly synchronous class discussions via Wimba's online live classroom, every Tuesday from start to finish in the semester, and are adjusted for holidays if they fall on a Tuesday. It is challenging to set a schedule that is convenient to course participants who live across many time zones and have busy work and family schedules, but we have made every effort to accommodate for the range of time zones and schedules. The proposed schedule has proved to be convenient to as many students as possible. If you have a scheduling conflict, please discuss this with your instructor to see if the schedule for your class meeting can be modified. The class schedule begins the first week of the semester and is generally as follows. See the discussion schedule in Course Information for the specific dates throughout this semester. There is a sample discussion schedule in the HCO FAQ on the Hebrew College Web site.

You may choose to attend either the morning or the evening session. Please choose one that you plan to attend throughout the semester. Let the instructor, know as soon as you decide your preference. Also alert the instructor in advance if you will be switching sessions for a particular week.

Instructions on how to join the discussion are on the Web Conferencing page of this Web site.

If for some reason you are unable to participate in the class discussion, please contact your instructor for guidance. An alternative to participating in class discussions is finding a Hebrew speaker with whom you can practice spoken Hebrew, either in person or on the phone.

A valuable supplemental option to the weekly class discussion is the Study Buddy program. Click the Hebrew Study Buddy button in the Online Student Center navigation bar for details.
