Blackboard E-mail Tool

Read the instructions for Web-based e-mail in the Blackboard Student Manual (PDF | Web version). The instructions are located in Chapter 4 under "Course Send E-mail"—pages 63 through 66 of the downloadable PDF version.

Sending e-mail through Blackboard

To send an e-mail to your fellow students from inside your course:

  1. Click the Communication button. (Or, even simpler, there may be an Email button right in the navigation, in which case skip to step 3.)
  2. Select Send E-mail.
  3. Click Select Users. From this page users can send email to the following people in a course:

    • Fellow classmates
    • Instructors
    • Teaching Assistants
    • Groups within a course
  1. Select the recipients to whom to send the e-mail.Once you select your intended audience, the interface will allow you to insert the subject line, email message, and add any attachments if necessary before hitting submit. The Blackboard environment shows them only from your e-mail address as the sender, not the addresses of any recipients. So the recipients of the e-mail need you to provide all contextual information. Note: You should receive a Cc automatically.
  2. Composing the e-mail. When composing the e-mail, be sure to:
    • Identify yourself
    • Make clear the context in which you are sending the e-mail
    • Specify to whom you have addressed the e-mail by including a specific greeting, such as "Dear Sarah and Michal," or "Dear classmates and instructor" for emailing everyone. It really helps people know how to respond if they know to whom you sent your message.
  3. Click Submit to send.

Receiving Email.

Most likely you are using your own Web email program, or one that your local ISP provider has given you. This email account is your main email account where you can be reached and is the account you signed-up with to keep in correspondence with Hebrew College. We recommend though you create a Web mail account that’s primary function is to handle email. Such as:

Alternatively, if allowed by your workplace, you may correspond using your workplace account.
