How to Use ebrary
With ebrary you can browse, view, search, copy text, print documents (very slowly, a small section at a time), and access them online any time. Advanced features such as saving annotation and highlighting may become available in future.
The link to ebrary is on the library's online resources Databases page. You can reach the login directly.
To log in to ebrary, you will need to enter your last name and your student ID. Your ID number is above the expiration date in the lower left-hand corner of your Hebrew College student ID, and was e-mailed to you in the top section of your welcome e-mail at the start of the semester. (This is not the ID you use to log in to online resources, but a numeric ID used by Hebrew College systems.)
Once you log in, you will see an informational screen. The first paragraph asks you to download ebrary Reader. You only need to do this if you have not already done so on your machine. (Installing it does not change the first page—you will always continue to see this message on logging in.)
If you’ve just downloaded ebrary or are about to start using it for the first time, check out the instructions below. They cover:
Please note that there is a very helpful and concise help system within ebrary itself. It will show you how to create an ebrary account, save books to your “bookshelf,” and highlight and annotate books once you’ve set up the account. You can access these instructions and more by clicking the Help link above the Bookshelf tab on the right side of the screen.
Installing ebrary Reader
From the information screen, click the button or the text link to download the ebrary reader.

The download tool should detect the appropriate plug-in for you to download. The next screen you see should say, for example, "Download ebrary Reader for Windows now." (Note that Linux and UNIX are not supported at this time.)
- Click the link to download the file.
- Close any open programs, including your browser.
- Find the saved .exe file and run it by double-clicking on it.
- Open your browser and return to ebrary.
- Now you are ready to search ebrary.
Finding Texts
To get started, simply use the search feature in the top left corner to find your item.
- The simple search, shown in the illustration below, is your default option. It performs a keyword search and returns books that contain the key word anywhere (even in the book content).
- Click the advanced button to for more specific selections, as shown in the illustration that follows the search example: text, title, subject, author, or publisher, and also to limit the category, document type, and language you are searching for.
- Make your selections, and then click the search button beneath the entry fields.
Viewing Results
If you click on a title,

the selected work will open in the frame and you will be able to view the contents as illustrated below.

The contents listing on the side of the full page is expandable and clickable. Click an item in the contents listing to open that section’s first page in the viewing frame.
It is possible to print from ebrary, but they don’t make it easy; you can only print a page or a few pages at a time.
