Live Classroom Audio Troubleshooting

First confirm that you are holding the talk button down (using your mouse or by holding the Control key) the entire time you’re talking, either in the meeting or in your wizard test.

Make sure that the talk button turns orange when you engage it, showing that the Web conferencing software itself is working properly.
In addition, watch the Live Classroom interface. Make sure that the small + symbol across from your login name switches to orange when you click the Talk button or hold the Ctrl key, indicating that your statement is being broadcast to the other participants.

Next, check for a problem in the Windows audio settings.First, make sure that your microphone is completely plugged into the computer. Then right-click the little volume icon in the task tray—at the bottom right of your screen, next to the clock. Choose Adjust Audio Properties. On the first tab you see, click the Advanced tab:

Device Properties Choose Options > Properties and then select Recording:
Display Audio Properties
Click OK.

You should then see the volume properties for the recording equipment you have. Make sure Microphone is selected. To eliminate conflicts, make sure the other boxes aren’t checked. You may have software that changes these settings when you use it, so you may need to return to this panel and restore these settings before future conference calls.

Recording Controls

Make sure there are no indications that the microphone is on mute.
Click the Advanced button (if you don't see the advanced button, select Options > Advanced Controls and it will appear). You might try selecting Microphone boost (but that can sometimes make the microphone too loud).

Click OK and exit the volume controls. Return to the original Sounds and Audio Devices Properties box that you opened.
Switch over to the Voice tab:

Audio Properties

Do you have more than one default device listed in the Voice recording menu? If so, there may be a conflict.

Click the Test hardware… button. It will walk you through a test of the microphone.

Try the wizard again. If this does not work, please see what other information you can find at the help desk. If you don’t find a solution in the self help segment, submit a request for service describing the problem, and suggest several times at which you will be available to log in to Live Classroom with a staff person to make sure your system gets squared away.
