Connecting Your Headset and Microphone
Windows
Your headset has two plugs: one for the microphone and one for the headset. The microphone plug (usually red, and with a picture of a mic on it) must be connected to the microphone outlet to work properly. The headset plug (usually black, with a picture of a headset on it) must be plugged into the headset outlet to work properly. These two outlets’ locations vary from computer to computer, but they’re usually together in an unobtrusive place (such as the back). You may have to search for them. Below are two illustrated examples.
In the first example, the outlets are beneath the slot where the Ethernet card lives. (I constantly forget this and search around the whole laptop, practically flipping it upside down to find them.) The second picture in this first example shows that you can see the icons indicating where to insert the plugs if you look closely. If your computer does not have icons, simply experiment until you find which arrangement works!

In the second example, the outlets are toward the front of the machine, on the side. The icons for the outlets are right on the top, below the keyboard. You can see how the icons on the computer match the icons on the headset plug.

Even once you've established the correct location, it is easy to plug the headset in incorrectly or incompletely. If you can't hear or others cannot hear you, always make sure the plugs are properly inserted.
Macs
On most Macs the connections are in the back of the machine next to the ethernet card. You may need to buy a USB headset if you use a Mac notebook. Mac-appropriate headsets are available through any Apple store.
