Voice Boards Message Loading Problem — Removing old Java Versions when Updating Java in Windows

The symptom(s): You open a Voice Board, and it does not load, you get an error, or you get "Retrieving the list of messages. Please wait." but no messages ever display.

The problem: The Java applet that is running is an old one which is cached on your local machine and is not compatible with the new and improved Wimba Voice Tools product to which we have just upgraded.

The Solution: you must wipe out the Java cache on your machine.

The procedure:

  1. Close all browser windows or anything that could be running Java. So just close all windows!!
  2. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  3. In the Control Panel click on "Java".

Control Panel window

  1. In the Java Control Panel you will find an option to "Delete Files". It is in the "General" tab. (If the General tab is not the active tab when you open the Java Control Panel click on it to make it the active tab. Now you will see the "Delete Files" option.)

General Tab of Java Window

  1. When the Delete Files window pops open, make sure that ALL THREE checkboxes are checked! Then click OK.

All boxes checked when deleting files

  1. Back in the Java Control Panel click OK.
  2. Close the Control Panel and RESTART YOUR MACHINE.

The result: You should now be able to access all Voice Boards (to which you have access rights.)
