NETA Hebrew Language Initiative
NETA is a dynamic Hebrew language curriculum designed for students in grades 7–12. Created by Hebrew language curriculum specialists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, administered by Hebrew College and supported by The AVI CHAI Foundation, NETA is reaching students in more than 90 Jewish day schools worldwide—and the list keeps growing.
THE NETA MISSION
NETA seeks to provide a comprehensive linguistic and educational framework that enables Jewish secondary school students to advance to high levels of Hebrew proficiency. Grounded in principles of second-language learning, this framework includes an intellectually rich and sequential curriculum, preparation of a cadre of master teachers, ongoing professional development for educators, consultation to schools, and evaluation of educational processes and outcomes. In so doing, we fulfill our commitment to cultivating a community of Jews who are poised to be active participants in the continual renewal of Hebrew culture and who feel a profound attachment to Am Yisrael (the Jewish people) and Medinat Yisrael (the State of Israel). Certificate in Hebrew Teaching for Master Teachers
Admissions Requirements Hebrew College offers three certificate programs, in collaboration with NETA, for teachers of the NETA curriculum. The certificates are designed to help teachers advance in their careers as they gain experience with the NETA program. As a certificate program student, you will gain knowledge and training to teach Hebrew as a second language in middle and high school, learn about theoretical linguistics and pedagogic methodologies of teaching Hebrew as a second language to teenagers, and gain experience through supervised fieldwork at a NETA school. Certificate in Hebrew Language Teaching—21 Credits Designed for individuals interested in making a career of teaching Hebrew language, this certificate is suitable for individuals who are working in schools using the NETA curriculum, but open to other qualified students. You will gain experienced through supervised fieldwork at a NETA school. TOPICS

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
The certificate takes 3 years to complete. All coursework takes place during intensive summer institutes at Hebrew College. Part I: Intensive 25-day course during first summer year Part II: 40-hour, supervised Hebrew teaching practicum during school year Part III: Intensive 10-day course during third summer

back to top NETA Certificate Admissions RequirementsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a competitive grade-point average Official GRE scores TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores for all foreign students whose first language is not English and who have not received a degree from an academic institution where the language of study was English. Two letters of recommendation, preferably from supervisors Completed applications. Please note: These certificate programs require two application forms.
