The summer is a great time to earn extra credits toward your degree or to explore new horizons through community education courses.  Hebrew College offers a variety of unique and exciting learning opportunities every summer, and Summer 2012 is no different. Sacred Teaching and Spiritual Learning

Tuesday, June 12

3:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Hebrew College

A post-NRJE conference seminar on Sacred Teaching and Spiritual Learning chaired by Dr Michael Shire, Dean of the Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education exploring new paradigms of teaching for formation of religious identity and spiritual learning in Jewish Education. Presenters will include Professor Mary Elizabeth Moore, Dean of Theology and Religious Education at Boston University and Professor Tom Groome, Dean of Theology at Boston College. The post conference seminar is free to all NRJE participants and will include a light supper. Non NRJE participants are invited for the seminar for a small fee. Registration information forthcoming.

To Till and to Tend

Sunday, June 3 - Sunday, June 10

Sessions held at sustainable farms in the Greater Boston area and Hebrew College

To Till and to Tend: Sustainable Agriculture, Food, Justice and Jewish Tradition. A Week of Farming, Serving and Learning. In this week-long, service learning experience you will explore the relationship between Judaism, agriculture and contemporary food justice issues. The seminar will include farm work, text study, and meetings with activists, community leaders and business people. Participants will be housed in dormitories at Mount Ida College, located near Hebrew College’s campus. We will travel a short distance each day to local farms and other destinations in the Greater Boston area. On Shabbat, the group will join together for spirited celebration, including prayer, meals, song and study, at Hebrew College. Together, we will prepare three kosher meals a day.

Tuition for the seminar is $1000 + transportation; generous fellowships are available. One undergraduate college credit available for interested participants. Application is due April 4, 2012.
